There are consumer motherboards available that can handle up to 64 gigabytes of RAM but there are no RAM moduals larger than 2Gbs.And the motherboard never has more than 4 memory slots.How do you expand a motherboard's memory up to 64Gbs?

The motherboard supports it, however the most common Operating systems do not support such a large size, hence you will not find many manufacturers who will sell them.

They do exist, but they are used for either server based versions of common OS (windows), or the Unix flavors for running a powerful server.

Some really can be expanded that far but the cost is really high. Windows Xp only needs 1gb, Vista will use 2gb, there are a few games that need 4gb. Winxp only handles 4gb max, need the 64-bit version to handle more. That amount of memory is really for servers to handle alot of ppl using the server for apps.
