The smoke is black and appears to be coming from the front/ top of the engine. The vehicle is a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant.

I haven't tried to drive it again since, does this sound like a faulty installation or should I expect more repair costs. I appreciate all of your help out there in Yahoo land.

Since I can't smell the smoke, I can't tell you exactly what it is, but I would have it towed right back to the shop and have it checked. If it is an electrical fire of any kind, they should fix it for free. They may have also knocked loose an oil line, which would smoke if it got onto the manifold.

If they say they absolutely didn't cause the problem, and it is something like I described above, I would take it to a different shop and get their opinion. You may have to file a complaint with the BBB, or even sue in small claims court to get them to pay for it.

check all the flueds in the car
it may be some grease got on the motor and thats why it's smokeing dose the Temp gage or oil light or Check eng light come on?? If not take it down the car wash and open the hood and spray some degreaser on the motor and let it sit for about 5 mins then spray it off with the high PSI water make sure no water gets into the fuel lines

hope this helps

How much smoke are you seeing? Is it dark black? Usually after a repair job a tiny bit of white smoke is normal when different things burn off the engine. But black smoke...not normal at all! Take it back to the shop that fixed it.

well im' no tech, but i work at NAPA auto parts and have for years now, sounds like there is something else wrong there my man, a starter wont be causing smoke to pour from your engine, might be something the shop did but i dout it, and DON'T DRIVE IT, good call there, have it towed back to that shop or to another shop and have them look at it
