No one said this stuff was remotely new....all the other...12 computers are fine but this one...but thats ok. I am stealing the harddrive from another one that I know works and trying to back it up the critical computer with the second harddrive before removing the old one....the old one has a bad block.....too many cd's would be required to back up the whole thing....thanks everyone for their help...I probably will try radio shack later.....it is def 17 pins....I am pretty good at counting, lol!

If you have an older PC, it may only have a EGA or CGA connector in it, although I have not seen these in quite some time. Alternatively, someone may have sold you the PC without a video card installed, and the 9-pin connector you are looking at is actually a COM port.

Likewise, are you sure the monitor you have is not actually 15-pin instead of 17-pin? Most monitors that are sold today are VGA and use a standard VGA connection (3 rows of 5 pins).

I would recommend that if you have a digital camera, you should take a close up picture of the connections available on the back of your PC and another of the connection on your monitor. Next take these two pictures to Radio Shack, Best Buy, CompUSA, or some other store that sells PCs. Show them the photos and ask them if they have a cable that can join the two that will make the monitor work. They may be able to get you something to hook the two up, or may tell you that you need a video card, or that the two will not work together.

9-pin male is a serial port, not a video card. There was 9-pin monitor ports but they are female 9-pin ports. Sounds like you don't have a video card installed in the computer.

opppppppppppppps!!! it truly is an excellent mistake... you try to connect your demonstrate screen on your serial port... it gained't function in any respect. in case you purchase the motherboard with equipped-in video card, there must be a fifteen pins woman connector on your demonstrate screen. in accordance which includes your rationalization I understood that you only offered the hot motherboard with out equipped-in video card... you want to purchase a video card one at a time then insert it onto your motherboard then you honestly can plug on your demonstrate screen. the way in which.. only purchase any form PCI video card with 256MB memory or higher and Insert the PCI video card into PCI slot on your motherboard

The 9 pin connection you are seeing is a serial port connector and not a video connector. Most video ports are 15 pin DIN connectors, not 17 pins.

Either someone did not install a Video Adapter or the video port is hidden.

This is fairly common. You have a VGA port on your computer and a DVI plug on your monitor. You simply need an adapter.
Here are two possible places that have one near you.
