I spent my childhood in Beirut during the Civil War, and I've witnessed 8 years of continuous fighting. Has any of you seen a war happen around them? If yes, where? and do you feel that it affected the rest of your life?

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is the condition a person is suffering after the combat or being in some other Traumatic event like a serious car accident.
Having been in Beirut during the Civil War and witnessed the destruction and death first hand and could not escape is a major cause of PTSD. You saw, heard, smelled, and felt the war first hand. Also, being a child during this experience is important to the effect of PTSD on the person. It does not take much to seriously scare a child.
As a youngster you personalized it in your imagination and lived it in your dreams. Every one however suffers differently but all suffer in some ways. Here are some of the possible symptoms:
Depression, hyperactivity, paranoia, intrusive memories and thoughts, sleep disturbance, nightmares, dependence on alcohol or drugs, alienation from others, problems maintaining relationships, Distortion of senses like hearing, seeing, smelling, feeling, and tasting what you sensed during the war, loneliness, anger to even rage, constant recalling events and impressions and isolating. There are more, but that is what I recall at the moment.
Each sufferer has a combination of these symptoms in different degrees.
If this sounds like you, you need to seek counseling from a expert counselor.
Counseling can speed the process of understanding the Disease and effectively dealing with it. You will never be over the symptoms completely, but you can manage the symptoms with medications and counseling.
You can do it! Good question!

Witnessed/took part. Western Sahara, Cambodia, East Timor, Afghanistan and Iraq.

There's something seriously wrong if it doesn't affect you in some way. My only friends are my old army ones. They're the only ones who understand.

Only on TV, in my living room. Even there, it has effected me. I have learned that any dum**** can start a war, it takes some real brains to stop one.
