Haynes or Chilton's manuals are excellent and inexpensive. They are adequite for anything you want to do to your car. A Honda manual is not necessary.

The heat shield needs to be repaired. It is there for a reason. Depending on where it is, you could cause a major fire by removing it, and lose your whole car. Likely it just needs some screws tightened.

The definitive mechanics book is found at the dealer. You can sometimes find a used one at a book store that sells used books. The Official Honda Mechanics Guide is the one used by the Honda mechanics themselves. The rattle on your heat shield sounds suspiciously like you have gravel between the heat shield and the catalytic converter or resonator. The shield is held on by a couple of 10mm bolts. Spray the bolts with a penetrating oil before you try and take them off(don't do this when the exhaust system is hot).

Go to any auto parts stores and they should have a book for your car. To fix your heat shield on your catilic converter either rewedded or remove it and the rattling will go away. Don't worry the heat shield will not hurt anything. I`ve taken my own off.

you can
1. remove the heat shield. just remember not to park in high grass after removing it.

2. take 2 large hose clamps, and tighten them down on either end. this will work 90% of the time to hold it in place, and get rid of the rattling.

3. you can replace it. the least used option, but will of course work.

Haynes or Chilton manuals at any parts store. They are very good. Rip off the Heat shield, that will make it quieter.
