I like states and cities names. I use my middle name on here, but my first name is a big city.
I'd always thought Dallas and Austin were cool names for a girl, although I'm not real sure about Tennessee. I think of that more as a boys name, but if your friend likes it she should go for it! It's her baby. :-)

Unless they are from Tennessee or part American Indian that name would be a disaster for your daughter. Every time she would meet somebody she would have to explain "Oh I am not from Tennessee but my parents liked the name". After the 500 th time that can be annoying.

Some names of states and cities sound actually like real names. Something, however, like New York or Rhode Island, wouldn't have the same effect. Tennessee really isn't my taste but if you like it, go for it.

My friend named her children after the AF bases they were stationed at: McClellan, Griffiss...So naming a baby after the state your living in is cool. But alot of Dakotas were born no where near No or So Dakota. I would name a girl Tennessee.

I think its the new trend and its going to get old very quickly.
Also, it just seems unfair to me. What if you were named Brooklyn and you some day found yourself visiting or moving to NY? You'd likely feel very silly, and look very silly to any native New Yorker (trust me on this one!).
Maybe it could work if you chose a city or state name that most people don't visit or know much about, such as Madison. I don't like the name, but at least it's a less recognizable city that probably won't cause your daughter any grief.
Good luck!

Dakota is good for both. Montana for a boy..I think tennessee would just be a punishment for said child and Virginia is good for a girl, as well as Arizona I think I would use if I had to. Good luck on whatever you choose.

I'm not a fan of Tennessee for a name at all. But have thought Phoenix is awesome and lots of ppl like Maryland (Marilyn) . Maybe Madison as well! And Dakota is a great name! (actress: Dakota Fanning) I liked Jilly's suggestion for Brooklyn (Brooke), Austin and Savannah as well!
