Check the radiator cap.

Cap not holding proper pressure and thus allowing coolant back into the overflow tank.

Radiator caps do need to be replaced from time to time. There's a spring on these caps that do eventually wear out.

Try a new radiator cap before going after other things. It's a cheap $10 part that you can do yourself. (WARNING: Replace the radiator cap only WHEN ENGINE IS COLD)

I also recommend getting the engine thermostat replaced at the same time

temp sensors dont send the right signal if you are to low on prestone. head gaskets may allow prestone to be burnt in the cylinders but not blow back the reverse is true. the prestone can be blown into the tank. first check that the termostat is doing its job. if it is stuck closed it will boil in the block when the motor is shut. we use a laser thermometer to tell. find a good mechanic to be sure.

Barbonzo is on the right track..... Also check to see if the cooling fan is working..If you are overheating and the fan is not working it will boil as soon as you shut it off..Fan motor could be bad as well as the fan thermostatic sensor, or the fan relay......

Check to see if you have coolant in your oil, or if it steams when you drive. Sounds like a blown head gasket to me.
