You have two options.

First, you can purchase a "crossover cable" (any computer shop will know what that means... the cables are "crossed", allowing direct access). Plug one end into each computer, and you're wired together. Then run the networking wizard. Pretty simple. Problem is, it takes up the ethernet port on both computers, making them unable to get internet access, or communicate with anything other than each other.

Second, you can purchase a network hub, router or switch. Get a pair of "patch cables" (standard ethernet cables). Plug each computer into the hub/router/switch. Then run the wizard. This will allow you to plug additional devices into the hub/router/switch for internet access, etc. One more piece of hardware, but much more functional. (ps. If you want internet, be sure to get the router)

Hello!!

Well, the easiest way is to use a cross-connected cable ( i´m not pretty sure about if this is the right name) but you can connect one pc card to the other by the cable and you should put an address to the first one. I.E.

192.168.100.4
255.255.255.0
192.168.100.4

In the other pc

192.168.100.3
255.255.255.0
192.168.100.4

If u need some other services like internet sharing, the most probably is that u need a router or a switch, but if is just only between two pcs, the cable will work fine. and is cheap.

You will need a network hub or router to do this, if you have one, simply connect the two computers to the hub/router using an ethernet cable. If you have Windows XP, you can run the Home network setup wizard (from the control panel), make sure that both computers are on the same domain, check this by going to Start - control panel - system - computer name.

Get yourself either a cross over network cable or a cheap 4 port hub.

If they are both windows XP machines they will both resolve together to allow each other to "see" eachother.

You can then use the "Setup A Home or Office Network wizard" to go from there.

Though a Cross over cable might be easy, you can still use a network cable to configure the a direct connect, using the Network configeration Wizard. You probably need to fix IP addresses in order to make them work.
