300 page books have been written in four months (if you have nothing else do to). Some writers only come out with one 60 pager a year though.

Usually, there are a team of at least 4 artists, and they could take any amount of time depending on the style. Some artists can do 30 pictures a day, but these are the rare exception (and expensive).
Allow at least three months with a small experienced team, probably 8 months or more with recent art school grads.

publishing, well, some publishers have a backlog of six months or more. That's six months before they even see your book. then it depends on seasonal things. Self publishing can be a matter of weeks, but it's expensive and risky.

If it's just you and your brother, start with a 60 page book. seriously, without help that'll take you forever.

p.s. prove to me you own the character. He doesn't have to do anything unless you have legal proof.

Yeah, I gotta agree with the first poster.

It really depends on who's doing the work, how you go about publishing it (as an independent versus retaining outside services), and then there's illustrators who all have their own styles. And some may not have the same vision of your character that you may have or want.
