It depends, some schools use different scales (I've heard of a 5 pt. scale), and some schools give points above what the scale offers. Like at my school you can get a 4.333 for an A+ but your overall GPA can't be above a 4.0. Then again if it's a high school you're talking about it's possible to have a grade much higher than the max GPA becuase of honors or AP credit.

You can get a 4.3 GPA because if you take AP (advanced placement classes) then you get 10 points added to your final grade. So if it is a 93 it becomes a 103 and so if you have many AP classes and you make above 100's in there, then your GPA can be a 4.3

A 4.3 GPA is a weighted GPA and a 4.0 is the highest unweighted GPA you can get.

Unwieghted GPA the highest is 4.0
Weighted GPA can go up to 6.0 I believe. In some honors or advanced classes (such as AP or IB), letters count for higher numbers than they do in normal classes, making a higher GPA possible.
