I've just purchased a 1992 Honda Accord LX (127,000) it does not leak any oil or any other kind of fluid. It seems to be running fine now. Just wondering with proper maintenance how long should I expect it to last. One more thing is there any way to know for sure it the original engine was replaced? Seller informed me that he replaced original engine 4 years ago, odometer read 265,000 miles. I appreciate any feedback, thank you.

You can make it last quite a bit longer but plan on doing some work soon. If the transmission is the original and has never been rebuilt then plan on replacing it in a few years. Hondas are great but 265K on a trans is a lot of miles regardless of make. Keep an eye on the wheel bearings/hubs for noise, again 265K is a lot of miles. Changing the timing belt now would be cheap insurance unless you know the last time/mileage it was done. Sounds like you have the proverbial Honda that could run forever.

hondas and toyotas last the longest... if you want a car that will never die.. trade that in for a '96+ toyota camry...
a '92 accord should last you a long time tho...
what makes me iffy is that the engine was replaced... possibly in a crash? or severe car problems? if it was replaced ina crash then w.e no biggy.. prolly a good thing if it lasted 4 years already.. if it was replaced because of severe problems i'd be carefull...
everything in a car is connected.. and when one thing wares down to nothing.. that means something else connected to it prolly has some ware on it putting more ware on w/e was relying to that newly wared part... Hondas are known for their timing belts slipping.. which is closely related to the engine..so i'd keep an eye on that and just have my fingures crossed.. Also, keep an eye on your transmission... if your engine wasnt replaced.. i would say dont worry about it... but anything can happen.. just replace the filter and have it flushed and it should be fine...

change your oils... refill all of your liquids (trans fuel, windshield washer fluid, ETC)
replace tans filter and flush...
maintain your timing belt...
regrease your battery terminals (do this when you buy a car to make sure everything looks good as new and you dont have problems one morning when you realize your battery is corroded..)

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY.. HAVE A LOCAL MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT AND GIVE YOU THE OK!!

if all is well, you can expect to drive it for prolly 350,000 miles which is almost 100,000 more miles then it already has on it... most car drivers drive their cars for 10,000 miles a year...so 100,000/10,000 = about 10 years left on your car!

Honda's are suppost to out last American and I've got 240,000 original miles on my Pontiac never been rebuilt or replaced I do take care of her oil change every 3000 or less trans service at 15,000 and we also have a Dodge (but it's a diesel) with 360,000 both are daily drivers and with no problems . . you should be able to see if the engines serial number matches the vin on your car if not it's been replaced

will if he replace the motor 4 years ago and the new motor has 127,000 miles on it long as you keep the oil changed and keep it tuned up it should last about 100,000 more miles but sooner or later the trans will give out have the trans flushed and put a new filter on it that will help the trans life

hope this helps

You should get a good 300K out of that car, and if the engine was replaced dont worry about what your speedometer says. Just keep up with the maintenance, oil change and tune-ups..... it should last a long time.

You could easily get another 100,000 miles out of that engine if you take good care of it and drive it reasonably.
