This is for windows XP, I am not sure if it works on all windows versions.. "SYSTEM RECOVERY"
To get your computer back to looking like new, do "a system recovery" These instructions, will clean everything off of your hard drive, so you must back up anything that you want to save. I have done this three times, and I got these instructions, from a computer tech. When starting your computer, tap the F-10 key. click on next-yes-and follow the instructions, that come up on your screen. When you are finished, your computer, will look just like it did, when you first bought it.Do these steps, in order, when finished.
1. set up windows firewall, in control panel
2. windows update (click express)
3. install your anti-virus program (update)
4. install anti-spyware (update)

It's either CTRL-F10 or CTRL-F11 when you first start the computer (before Windows starts loading).
That will restore the computer to it's factory state from the hidden disk partition.
If that doesn't work then the hard drive has either been replaced or the factory partition has been deleted.

Look under the Program Files in the Stat Menu for a Dell utility to create the restore CDs.

yeah you can order them from dell, but most likely you will get disks that install windows 2000, which is most likely the OS that thing was shipped with, and not XP. If you have XP on there now, I'd either reinstall that, or leave it alone, download a program called ccleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ and clean up your current install by using this program to clean out the junk, and get rid of programs you don't want or don't need.

You most likely will need your installation CD's that came with the computer. If you do have those, install the first one, boot into your CD.
If you do not have the CD, you can order them from Dell

Just reinstall windows and any other software that came with it. It will be like a brand new computer, but you will lose your files if you don't back them up.
