Why are women judged by their looks first and there achievements only afterwards?

I have the pleasure of knowing many strong women, who are very succesful.
But first and foremost they jugde themselves and are jugded by others by their looks. How much weight they have gained, how their clothes are fitting, if their hair is perfect.
The old joke about the difference between a man and a woman is that a woman could never walk down the street with hairy legs on show, with a beer gut, and a bald head and still feel sexy is quite poigniant. Not matter how much success you have in your life as a woman if you are not able to also look like a superstar people see you as a failure.
Why is this?

My experiences are the same as your's. I think it is a hold over of sexism from our parent's time.
My mum was really nice looking, dressed professionally, etc. That was at least enough to get her past first impressions, it was only then that people, male and female were interested in her accomplishments.

Since the beginning of the world, women have first and foremost
been judged by their beauty and their physical make-up.
However beauty is in the eye beholder.
This is the way it has always been and it
will always be this way. Learn to adjust by showing the world you have a mind as well as a body and that you are not only a sex object.

Because for men it's easier to look than to think and unfortunately our biology tells us we need to attract a mate.
