You really won't find many cheap rental apts in Barrhaven or Riverside south. they are new build up communities with mostly new condos and new houses. so the rent for condos would be kinda steep you'll be looking at a 3bdrm townhouse for around $1250 (nice ones, current not crap) Riverside south is an easy commute to downtown it's a nice newer area 20mins, Barrhaven is at least 40/45 mins out depensding on traffic and route in. Nepean has more apt rentals, Orleans(East) is a commute everyday in and out especially if you do the 8/8:30, 5/5:30 in and out the Queensway is backed up in to the hwy 17, same for Kanata(West) Gloucester near Blair & Ogilvie you should stay away from if you are raising a family. I guess my opinion is if you looking for cheap reasonably nice apt rental, near schools, shopping etc Nepean would be your best bet, houses if you are buying Barrhaven and riverside south is better, Kanata is getting overpriced for the distance into town but they dohave nice houses and it's nice for families but again it's a bit out if you are working downtown and have to make that drive everyday.
