For my first two children I went to a general practitioner and my third I went to an OBGYN ( I was worried I was going to need a c-section for my last child) I liked going to a family doctor. The doctor that I saw the most through my pregnancy delivered the baby, when I went to the OB the doctor who delivered my baby I only saw once.

Our family doctor took care of me throughout my entire pregnancy and delivery. I loved having one doctor that did it all. There was no confusion. She was the first person to hold my son and he's never seen any other doctor (except his vaccination shots). He's 5 now and he adores her. He's never afraid to go to the doctor and he knows when he's sick that she'll make him feel better. There's a level of trust there not only with me and her but also with my son and her.
She knows everything about him so when something's wrong and I take him to see her, I don't get that , "Well he don't look sick." She knows him almost as well as I do.
Edited: Our doctor was a certified midwife and obstetrics nurse before she became a doctor. I had a difficult delivery (he had a bowel movement inside of me) and it could have caused a lot of problems for him later in life. She knew exactly what to do for him and for me when I started hemorraging. Family doctors are trained in a wide variety of medical care.

there really aren't any. i mean, they are a doctor and they know what they are doing, but family practice doctors are not specifically trained to be OB/GYN's. i would much rather have a doctor that would know what to do if there was a problem. where i live, a lot of family practice doctors will take care of you while you are pregnant, but they will let whatever doctor is on-call at the hospital deliver you.

Being able to ask questions freely, a lot of OB/GYNs are super busy and don't take the time to speak to you
