Rick Schroder started in the business as a popular blonde juvenile model and actor. His breakout role came in the 1979 remake of "The Champ" starring opposite Jon Voight and Faye Dunaway. He went on to star as a rich kid Richie Stratton, being raised by a toy store magnate father in the long-running sitcom "Silver Spoons" (NBC, 1982-86; first-run syndication, 86-87). Since the early 80s, Schroder has starred in numerous TV projects such as NYPD Blue, movies and miniseries, probably getting the best notices for his work as the novice Newt Dobbs in the Emmy-winning miniseries "Lonesome Dove" (CBS, 1989), and its 1993 sequel, "Return to Lonesome Dove." He's one of the few child actors that has made the transition into adult roles and has had a long, successful career.

I suppose it hard to understand why anyone becomes famous, especially when you don't see their talent. I don't understand the appeal of Brad Pitt myself.

Rick Schroder does have an impressive amount of credits that include, acting, directing and writing. He's worked successfully and unsuccessfully in movies and television His career has spanned 30 yrs.

Success in the entertainment field often defies conventional reason. Just look at Paris Hilton!! Now that's just mind boggling to me!!

Well, he become popular and well known for his role in The Champ and his role as Ricky Stratton on Silver Spoons. He was out of the picture for awhile but has done his share of tv shows and Lifetime movies. He made his comeback on NYPD Blue and I think he was on that until the show ended....not sure.

He was on silver spoons, and that was a popular show, in the 80"s. Then he went on to do NYPD and that show was one of abc.s top rated shows, for a long time.

He starred in a sitcom in the 80s called "Silver Spoons". That's really all he's known for. A perfect candidate for those "Where Are They Now" type of shows.
