It was an articulate article, but I think it is presumptuous to say someone needs to EARN respect. I don't work for you. I am not spending a moment trying to earn a thang from you.

I know a woman who works with abused teenagers. One signal to her that a teenager has abusive tendencies is when they say: "respect yourself first, THEN I will respect you"; or "you gotta EARN my respect". They are asking for something abstract. They can never tell you EXACTLY how someone demonstrates respect themselves, or how respect can be earned; and if they tell you anything, they will always change the rules.

This professional suggests that a person who respects their fellowman can handle adversity better. Lacking respect for a person just gives you an excuse to be cruel to them. Many cults dehumanize outsiders to encourage followers to be ruthless. Where as person who has respect will call the police on someone being disruptive; a person with no respect might point a gun the person's head because the truth is they are coming from a place of hate. Hate is difficult to bridle.

I have respect for nature, and it has been breaking me down from day. You don't see me polluting and disrespecting nature to pay her back.

I have respect for ALL human life-even the *******. If someone disrespects me, their ranks, or otherwise; I handle them RESPECTFULLY (I think my ability to handle adversity speaks volumes about how I feel about myself)--unless there is no one to witness it, then all the gloves come off!

Thought it was pretty good,,,but didn't like the "cook crack" comment & I think you should change the word "cops" to the word "police" 'cause that would show more "respect" on your part.
