Bats don't have "hits" in them, but you do. A bat is simply a tool, but the best tool that you have is the one between your ears. That's what governs the eye-hand coordination for hitting and any other activity.

Make sure you're using a BRAND NEW ball.... Then listen to the sound of the bat. If you hear more of just a "thud", just dead, soft sounding, then the bat is dead. You'll feel it too, when the ball hits the sweet spot. A dead bat will generally lose it's sweet spot.

take the barrel of the bat and lightly tap the metal ending against dirt or cement if it vibrates it has a lot of "pop" still in it if not it is dead
