For the last 4 nights I have had very realistic dreams of being surrounded by snakes and I am chopping off their heads. I mean its so strange. I have not spoken or watched or read anything to do with snakes, so its definately not something that i've seen and is playing on my mind.

1. If you perceive snakes as harmful, then they might represent torments, problems, enemies. The good thing is that you will overcome these negative feelings / happenings or problems.

2. If two people dream a snake (for e.g.), that doesn't mean that it symbolizes the same thing. Dreams are interpreted taking into account ones life / experiences / background / etc. The most appropriate person to interpret your dream is you!
Don't forget though that there are many kinds of dreams! I'll give you a few examples:
There are times when you just dream mixed up episodes of your daily life (persons, places you've visited, actions, movies that you've watched etc).
Other dreams reveal what is hidden in your subconscious (things like hidden desires, fears, censored feelings etc). This is another good way of analyzing yourself.
There are also premonitory dreams and dreams about past events (ones you knew nothing about).

I have often dreamed of snakes througout my lifetime, and like you I had not had contact or been subject to them in any way. I went on a radio talk show and there was a dream interpreter featured. She told me that it had to do with people in my life that I didn't trust and who I perceived were deceptive and malicious. That was all too true, as I was going through a difficult period and those around me did not wish me well. I have wondered about that from time to time. I don't know that she wasn't simply responding with an obvious answer. Still, it seemed to fit. The good thing is, I don't dream of snakes anymore and anyone who might wish me harm is long since out of my life. Good luck to you and God bless...

Snakes = fear, temptation, sex

In most cases, snakes symbolize fear. In your case, chopping off the heads could mean you can't take it any more with the fear. You are trying to find a way to control it in reality. Chopping off could mean escape from responsibilities or handle it in a different way. You may not have seen snakes recently, but that is the symbol of fear, and chopping off head could be affected by media about iraq, beheading. So your mind may mix them together and lurked into your mind.

However it causes you dream that, that is symbol of how you confront your fear

Okay, usually I would think that you need to be cautious about something in your life. The snake slithered away so maybe it is not some thing that is threatening you. But you are seeing something that is potentially dangerous. Just be aware : )
