I'm not for Bush, but with all that oil money he makes he is paying into alternative fuels. No one seems to understand this.

Then there is going to be a cut in oil production in the Middle East starting next month (I think it's next month)... Iraq being one of the states cutting oil production.

Bush called for ethanol to be made a commercially viable fuel for vehicles within six years. US production of the chemical compound nearly doubled between 1997 and 2004 to reach 3.4 bn gallons (12.9 bn litres). But compared to the 140 bn gallons of gasoline (petrol) used each year by Americans, ethanol represents barely 2.5 % of auto fuel.

"Well I guess if Brazil can do it with ethanol, why can't we?" Alaron Trading energy analyst Phil Flynn wrote in a sarcastic appraisal of Bush's proposals. "The president says he will also fund research in cutting-edge methods of making ethanol, not just from corn but from wood chips or switch grass. He left out cattle manure."

I would like to add that it is taking till 2025 because you have to realize that converting to alternative fuels will not be easy. There are still people out there driving cars from the 70's and 80's because they cannot afford new cars.

HAHAHA because of corn? Corn is hardly an essential investment in the human body... It doesnt even digest correctly. Screw corn.

what money is George W Bush making on oil?

back it up with FACTS

The US consumes 20 million 40 gallon barrels of oil each day. approximately half gets converted to fuel. Includes aircraft fuel, automotive, heating. that conversion has a 60% yield. leaving the equivalent of 10 million barrels of oil + 40% of 10 million barrels that were processed for fuel being used for other things... (you can check these numbers with google) Call it 14 million barrels of oil per day used for non fuel if you want.

Know where those 14 million barrels each and every day go? ziplock baggies, plastic in your car, dvd's, cd.s fake leather. plastic water bottles, plastic cups, poker chips. etc. With few exceptions, plastics and oils are petroleum based. Next time you shop, look for plastics on the items you buy.

The US usage of petroleum has been stable for more than a decade. Usage in developing countries is skyrocketing which drives up the price of oil. And it increases the consumption rate of a limited supply of oil. which will in a very short while make oil scarce and very valuable.

So why are you complaining when the President of this country supports using non petroleum based products for fuel?

He must. The alternative is this. our lives. our everyday lives. depend heavily on oil. If we do nothing, the demand for oil will continue to increase, the supply will continue to decrease, and guess what happens to the price?

My prediction is there will be true oil wars in the future if nothing is done. Why let's say you want to go buy groceries for your kids. But there's no gas to drive your car there. No oil in the engine anyway. So You walk. But, there's no milk because there is a shortage of 1 gallon plastic milk bottles. And for that matter, there's no ketchup, no cheese, no water, no bread (it's wrapped in plastic isn't it?) no frozen chicken. Nothing. Not even potatoes. They're sold in plastic bags right? So you leave. Walk past blockbuster. They are closed no plastic to make dvds no VHS tapes even. etc.

Get the picture? I support Bush's efforts for alternative fuels. So should you.

***UPDATE***
hey noname. glad you read my speech. I see you've changed it to "Bush invests in oil" Before you said ""with all that oil money he makes" Again, you have any facts to back that up? Or is it just a guess? That he makes money from oil. That he now invests in oil.

Exactly how much money did George W Bush make from oil last year? And give your source please....

Bush is not making money off of the oil in Iraq. Where do people get this idea from? BUsh isn't even in the oil business any more. There is a conflict right now as to which groups of Iraqis will own what land and own what percentage of the oil revenues. The US has nothing to do with it. I think ethanol would be a good thing, might contribute to cleaning up the ozone layer. Less polution overall.

I don't see it as greed but as sharing and using our own resources. Does he want increased use of alternative energy? Yes. But I see it as an opportunity for the United States to become more self-sufficient by actually using our own resources. What use is it in the ground if we can safely drill in a few areas and use what we have naturally. I'm no expert but I think that may decrease gas prices by having more of a supply and lesser of a demand. Why can't we have both an increase in oil production AND an increase in alternative energy?

What is he really doing about it? Calling for change and passing laws to make change are two very different things. Basically, we will have to deal with oil soon no matter what. Humans like to deal with consequences rather than planning ahead. When oil because prohibitively expensive, then we will switch to other forms of energy.

Do people know that Ted Kennedy has more oil stock than Bush?
It's all phony. Everything is phony & lies in DC.

Bush calling for Ethanol is also a mistake. Grocery prices are already going up because of corn prices.
Ethanol will cost us much more than oil.
If the Democrats would have allowed drilling in Alaska, we would even care about oil prices.
Because oil would be much cheaper.

His idea of "cutting consumption" probably goes like this:

Let his buddies in the industry raise prices until only the rich can afford fuel for cars and for heating homes, cooking, electric light, etc.

Everybody except the rich will be FORCED to cut consumption, and the rich will continue to drive around in Hummers.

You SAY he's trying to, but look at the funding for initiatives. It's easy to say that he's going to do his best to make something happen 20 years later when he's long gone, but how do his actions match up.

Look at funding and tax breaks given to alternative fuel research under this administration. Look at regulatory requirements for traditional fossil fuels. Look at the direct funding and tax breaks given for fossil fuels. Look at CAFE standards and requirements.

You SAY Bush is dedicated to cutting our oil consumption. Fine. First of all, with oil being a finite resource, he really doesn't have a choice. If it won't be there forever, we HAVE to cut, no matter what.

His funding for alternative energy is a tiny fraction of what the funding is for fossil fuels. While the oil companies are all making record profits, with billions in cash reserves, we're giving them huge tax breaks. He's cut alternative programs or has pronounced funding for them but then never made that funding available. He hasn't tried to nudge our own habits through gas taxes which could be then used for alternative research, he hasn't demanded that American companies drastically improve their fuel efficiency standards.

Every State of the Union speech, he says we have to become more energy independent, particularly in terms of foreign oil. Each year he gets a standing ovation for saying that, then each year our percentage of reliance of foreign oil increases.

His government agencies had unqualified political appointees censoring scientific papers that pointed to the environmental effects of continued reliance of fossil fuels. Let me repeat that - they CENSORED scientific research to allow oil seem more harmless and friendly than it really is.

Anyone can say they are for something. Actions speak louder than words.

Ethanol from corn is not the answer. It takes to much energy. Machinery to plant, harvest, and transport. If you could use the grasses, and the corn stalk it would be much more productive.
He gives a date for everything but Iraq

These are plans and nobody including Bush knows that this plan will work or not so as alternate the reserves are compulsion and these are vested interests of US.

You have answered your own question. Bush is not an oil greedy president, it just fits the democratic agenda and is carried full bore by by the main stream media which is an extension of the democratic party. The media won the November election for them.
