is has to be stated that watching a computer screen isn't healthy for your eyesight, especially when some people are online for long periods. With this in mind, why don't ISPs warn their members about eyesight difficulties, that are more than likely to occur, with continued use?

It's not the ISP's job to warn about eyesight! They provide Internet access ONLY. You can still be staring at a screen all day and not be online.

Why don't computer manufacturers put warnings on their monitors? You're blaming the wrong people.

That's like fat people blaming McDonald's for making them fat.

you seem to be well aquainted with the fact that this is an important issue. Unfortunately, its like selling a box of matches - ever seen a warning on the box? NO, because they don't have to. There are Health and Safety rules that govern the use of VDU's in the workplace but none in the home. Its good advice to replace your standard monitor with an LCD screen especially if you view nearer than 12"

As you state in your question staring at a screen can cause damage to your eyes so can staring at the sun I don't see a big warning notice on that perhaps if people thought for themself instead of requiring warnings on everything would be alot better.
Can you imagine where we would be if years ago someone had said don't go near those flames they may burn you.

Why are ISPs responsible for warning you of such problems? ISPs simply provide connections to the outside world. YOU are responsible for limiting your own use.

Besides, your (stated) problem will happen if you are using Internet or not.... You can get the same problem by playing games all day long or working all day long on your computer.

All keyboards today come with a warning for prolonged and repeated uses. Did you ever read it and follow it?

Because how you use a computer is your business and any damage to your eyes depends on your equipment and how you set it up. ISP's have nothing to do with any of this, they just provide access to the internet - which can be useful without using a monitor at all.

Why didn't someone warn me that jumping in front of a train is dangerous? C'mon, use a bit of common sense!

I agree totally with the person who siad "Why don't people take some personal responsibility!?". For crying out loud, stop blaming others for your own choices, decisions and behaviors. It is up to you how long you spend looking at a computer screen, and whether or not you choose to use some sort of shade or glare device. It is up to you what sort of job you choose, etc. I am so weary of people who want to blame everyone and anyone for their own actions and choices in life and not take one iota of personal responsibility about his/her own life.

Get a grip and stop blaming others for what only you have the ultimate choices in.

Why don't people take some "personal responsibility" for a change and stop blaming everybody and everything for things they should be mature enough to realize themself?

CRT or tube monitors are actually easier on the eyes then LCDs.

Oh also watch out when you walk down the street you may trip on a crack. Just in case your city hasn't notified you.

hmm, if a warning needs to be issued don't you think it should be the companies that manufacture the computer monitors that should be issuing it?
