I didn't know Shawn Hornbeck. But my little nephew knew him. and knew him as Shawn Devlin. My nephew played with Shawn and Tony. My sister and her boyfriend lived in the apartment complex. For almost 2 years. I'm beating myself up over this, because If I payed more attention on who my nephews friends were when he live there, I probably would of saw Shawn and call the FBI. I do remember when Shawn went missing. I saw pictures of him on the TV. I myself never saw Shawn. at the apartment complex because most of the times when I was there it was at night and my nephew was inside with me. I glad he is at home now, and Safe with his family. I know one thing that I'm going to try to change is paying attention to who my nephew. and pay more attention to the missing person list. One thing is is that the media just cover when kids go missing, the anniversaries when they have gone missing and when they come home if they come home. I know there's a web site for missing person. But if the media would take a time out and remember the kids that are missing, we might get some of these kids back.
Thanks Rebecca

Never even heard of him, but for those who think he could've escaped. Think again. As a child, even an adult after so long, you can be brainwashed.
I have been a military wife. I swear, those who go into combat are brainwashed. It is so easy to brain wash normal human beings.
Too Brainwash a child, doesn't take much at all. All you people who don't believe it, I wish you had the chance to be brainwashed just once. It's really a simple procedure for people who don't know any better.
I'm not putting anyone down. A person can easily be brainwashed in situations that you don't want to believe. Unless you've been there, none of you can honesly say you would do any different when it came to this helpless kid.
Don't blame this kid, there is no telling what he was told. He could've been told that if he tried to return home, his family would be killed. Would you stay or try to return home?
The point I'm trying to get across is children believe a lot more than adults, but I know People in the military are brainwashed everyday, don't think for one minute that a little kid can't be brainwashed in a few days.

First off, to KarenH... my dh has now been in the military for 19 years. What an insult from a fellow wife to insinuate that my husband, or any soldier, is brainwashed. You perpetuate a myth that is simply UNTRUE.
My dh has a brain of his own, thank you, which comes with achieving higher education (college degrees), and chosen career paths. Even "I" can't brainwash him into not turning my white laundry pink. So there ya go.
To further my point..
Victims of kidnappings do not go voluntarily (our military is an all volunteer organization - no one is kidnapped and forced to serve). Therefore, your comparison is absolutely baseless.
As for Shawn Hornbeck - I hope people and the media will leave him alone and avoid victimizing him all over again. Who knows why he did not flee.. and who cares at this point, as he is now reunited with his family.. and he's alive. Learning why he stayed will only be essential to law enforcement who need to understand what victims go through.. perhaps it will lead to the recovery of other kidnap victims long thought deceased by now.

He had a best friend named Tony Douglas who he went skating boarding with, bike riding, to the mall and Tony slept over at Shawn's house. Devlin taught Shawn how to drive his pick-up truck. Shawn and Tony were apparently seen driving around in the truck.

I did not know him while he was held captive, but I'm from his home town and was part of his search party! I'm just so thrilled that he is home safe. Especially after all the horrible story's we heard about what happen to him.
