No. I do agree parents shouldn't overfeed their children, but jailing the parents would open a whole new can of worms. Who would care for the children? Would they go into foster care? Our jails are already releasing serious criminals due to over crowding. I don't really know what should be done, but this problem would be very difficult to regulate. How would we know if the parents are overfeeding or if the children are overeating on their own? It is a dilemma.

No, because you can never prove they were overfeeding them.

Being overweight doesn't mean you eat too much. You could eat the right amount, or even not enough, but just eat all junk, and be overweight. I have known people that have had (or do have) hormonal problems, thyroid problems or are on medication that makes them overweight. Another thing is eating disorders--my mom was bulimic for the first half of her life, and she has been overweight with complication losing weight because of it. My one sister, Jen, is the same way with it--she was anorexic for a little while as a teen, and it's caused problems for her even 10 years later.

Besides, then if they are imprisoned, then it just causes more problems for kids. Then, those kids, who probably because of eating so much have stress eating, they will eat even more from the stress.

Intervention is okay, but jailtime isn't.

Yes in fact why trust parents with parenting at all? Why not take all children at birth and have the state bring them up. Trained professionals should be looking after the government's, sorry our children!

Okay, so who's going to replace those parents in the working population, since you're talking about around 40-50% of America right there??

They should be jailed with parents who can't afford to feed their children and see who walks out.

No. Unless malice can be proved in the act of overfeeding, which will be the most difficult to prove.

If we were to put in jail everyone who makes big mistakes, there would be room left for no one in prisons.
