Some of the literature I have on pregnancy says I need to call my insurance company (I am with United Healthcare, I have an independent account, I am preferred status P.P.O) and ask them about what is covered during pregnancy, etc. I am unsure of what questions specifically I need to ask. Do I inquire about ultrasounds , lab tests, and how many doc visits I am alotted throughout my pregnancy? Also, since I have a PPO, does this mean I am fairly free to pick whatever hospital etc, that I want? Any suggestions as to what to ask are appreciated.

you sound like you're on a roll...also ask:
-will a private room be extra?
-how long can i stay in the hospital and be covered?
-will a circumcision be covered (if you're having a boy and want one done)?
-what if a c-section is necessary?
-ask about pediatrics, also....registering baby with insurance company, etc...

you can call your insurance company, but most often, all doctor visits and doctor ordered test are covered,,,,,,,, most physicians have a standard set visit times,,,,,, then will add in visits as the need arises (if you have a problem or concern),,,,, the main thing that varies is the amount of stay in the hospital that is standard,,,,, if you dont have any paperwork that states the standard for that, you can call and ask,,,,,,,,,, but overall,,,,,,,,insurance covers most all the cost of pregnancy,,,,, that are ordered by a physician,,,, that is one area that so far they havent gotten so stingy on,,,, so call your insurance company, and also talk with the person in your doctors office that handles billing/insurance,,,,,, they can give you alot of information,,,,, you may have a choice of hospitals depending on which one or ones the gyn doctor you choose uses

Some times repeat visits to the O.B. don't require a co pay, find out if that applies to you. Also find out if the tests don on baby when born are covered, ie hearing etc. And if you are required to stay in hospital longer how much per night are you responsible for. Good luck to you and your new family.

Ask about labs, Drs that take them, hospitals in your network, sonos, deductibles! See if they have a packet for what they cover during and after pregnancy!
