It's a cousin of Cheeto and Dorito. Not related to Burrito though.

I actually interviewed for a job is a Frito Lay plant in Mississippi in 1980 and had a tour of the plant. A frito is made out of corn. The corn kernels are ground and made into a mash. The mash is then fried. Very tasty.

A Frito is a corn chip. A rather nasty tasting one if you ask me.

The history of the company who makes Fritos, Frito-Lay, can be found on the same web site at http://www.fritolay.com/fl/flstore/cgi-bin/comp_hist.htm? . Funny, the guy who started Fritos was named Doolin, not Frito!
