In order to fully grasp the emotional and mental state that Rocky is in; you should definitely see all of the previous ones.
They take you thru his history of how he becomes a fighter and how he fell in love with Adriane and their relationship thru each one of his films.
His rise and fall financially and the tumultuous relationship with his son are explained in the last one.
Otherwise Rocky Balboa will just seem like a movie about a has-been boxer trying to make a comeback in his dotage. Not much story. The history of his character is what makes the movie worth watching.

Yes, to discover how good were the 1,2 and 3.
The 4 not bad. The 5 horrible.
The question is : was it possible to try again a rocky after the last disaster, that kind of street fight movie entitled Rocky 5 ?

I wouldn't say so on the entertainment part although, you should watch the others cause then you know what the character has been through then you really are vying for him. He had some trouble with his brain after a major fight with a guy twice his size in Rocky 4 so that will probably have a factor to the story. Mind you, never mind all that, isn't Sylvester Stallone looking like his mum these days??! x

I don't think so. But, it might make you want to see them. They have the first 4 Rocky movies at Walmart. I see them everytime I look at the movies.

sadly yes. I don't really like the films but have endured them with my husband. The film will make no real sense if you haven't seen the others.
