I think the MLS is going in the wrong direction it think the MLS should try to improve the soccer in America by putting more creativeness in US soccer. Get more black americans involved. Signing Beckham is a huge mistake MLS is being mislead.

You have to remember that the MLS is DECADES behind the rest of the world and that soccer is not the national sport that it is in the rest of the world.

In order to raise the profile, David Beckham has been drafted in to make soccer more appealing to the population as he is the worlds most known player. However he isn't good enough to play in one of the worlds top teams ( Real ) nor did anybody in Europe try and take him on. The English team dropped him after last years world cup because in 4 years when the World Cup comes back around he will be past his prime.

Is he worth the money? who knows, but if the game gets played by more people then the team owners will become MEGA rich.

I don't think that diversity is the key to gaining a higher profile in the US but the Beckhams' star status will go a long way to making the game what it is in the rest of the world with more people playing and America becoming a world power on the pitch.

The MLS is only trying to do what every other country's soccer leagues are trying to do. Attract the big names to try to bring some credibilty to the league. Unfortunately, this is not helping the development of our players for the National Team, nor is it helping that a huge majority of the players are either caucasian or hispanic. The African-American society in general, however, has not shown a great attraction towards the sport. So while the MLS should be trying to entice it's own players to stay, it's having a hard time getting more African-Americans in just due to the fact of lack of interest, especially given the larger contracts many of the African-American athletes are getting in other sports, such as basketball and football.

I don't think so. I think bringing Becks will create some interest and hopefully the MLS will gain fans. With new interests, hopefully we'll get some new players (in general) out of it and maybe even in the future the MLS will also get some new talents. In order for the MLS to improve in style and what not, it's first to become well knowned so maybe internationals will come over and new players will join in.

agree that we need to develop more Americans players, as well as get more African-Americans and Hispanics playing. MLS teams need youth academies like in europe.

But, I also think bringing in players from around the world can also help raise the level of play and help MLS gain credibility in the soccer world.
