I used warm water in the washing machine...not a good idea. At least I didn't put it in the dryer, so it's not too bad. Any help is appreciated...thanks!

If it has only shrunk a little, you could try re-wetting it in cold water and then lay it out flat to dry and re-block it to its original size by lightly stretching it in all directions, including the wide and length of the sleeves. Leave it until it is completely dry. Hope this works for you.

I would put it in the sink with room temperature water. Its been washed so just get it wet. Let the water out of the sink and then while its still in the sink, squeeze it till you can't get any more water out. Have a couple of bath towells or bath sheets near the sink on the counter. Just lay it on the towell, shaping it the way it should be and then roll the sweater and towell together, fairly snugly so it is in a tube shape. Do this again in another dry towell and then using another dry towell spread the sweater out on top of it on a flat surface in a warm room. Just check it and turn it over once in awhile. I've heard of pinning the damp article of clothing to the towell while it dries flat but I don't think you need to do that. I'd worry about the pins (must be stainless steel). It sounds like a big deal with all the towells but really its not that hard but you need some time to do it. Good Luck!!

So sorry, but I have never had any success trying to stretch a sweater, or pull it. It's all over for the lovely thing. Shrinking of wool is a matting of the yarn fibers, and once they are matted it is impossible to un-mat them. It is like dreadlocks!!! If the sweater looks ok, give it to a small friend, and bit the bullet. You have learned a valuable lesson here. Experience is the best teacher!

If the other tricks already mentioned don't work, take it to a dry cleaners to be re-blocked. It costs a little bit, but almost always works. Since you didn't put it in the dryer it should work well.
