When I was at school the boys were lined up with schemes to work at the local car factory and the girls were encouraged to work at the local chocolate factory as packers.
Now the car factory has closed and the school still exists. Most of the school leavers now are encouraged to work in local call centres or manual labouring jobs.

There seriously is not much out there for someone without a college education sadly to say but true! My husband and I are in our fifties, and came from a city that had steel workers, and lots of industry. Now all of that is closed down, and our generation is in a real bind until retirement. My husband at this point drives an 18 wheeler, which doesn't always pay the Big Money like they say it does! Their are some weeks that are really bad, and some that are good. I do telemarketing, and it doesn't pay all that much but it helps. If I were you, I would run back to school without evening thinking of anything else. You really need that college degree today to get your foot in the door and make a decent living without working yourself to death, or doing without things that you need!

Probably fast food, or another minimum wage job. They probably need to stay living at home because they can't afford any other place to live. Putting the burden on the parents and taking the independence away from young people to move out and on with their lives. I believe, more needs to be done to ensure jobs for these and others in the same situation. Our country needs to do more to protect our jobs from all being out sourced.

The construction trade is still very hands on and requires very little, if any, education from the labourers. There's also the janitorial trades. Or truck drivers. Gardeners.
