Old ties make great vests, skirts and round table clothes.
Jeans can be made into purses, tote bags, & pillows.
Cut sweatshirts into squares and make a soft quilt, using the soft fuzzy side on top.
Ladies hankies can make a nice table topper or quilt.
Sew multi colored bandanas or hankies together and make a shower curtain.
Wool sweaters can be washed and dried several times to create felt that can be cut into shapes. Blanket stitch the edges and use these for package tie ons or ornaments.
Silks & Satins are great for making the scented eye pillows. Just fill with flax and lavender.
Strips of fabric can be sewn together to make curtains.
Long narrow strips of fabric can be sewn or knotted together and crocheted into rugs, slippers, etc.
Make fabric yo-yos to embellish a vest, scrapbook, jean purse, etc.

There are so many things. You can make stuffed animals (I like making bunnies with extra long ears); I've used all kinds of fabrics for these but the extra pink and white flannel were the cutest. You can make place mats and napkins with matching napkin rings: a really simple way is to take inexpensive shower curtain rings; make a long tube out of the fabric by first sewing a hem around each end then stitch the entire length leaving both ends open. Slip the tube over the opened ring, snap it shut and scrunch the ends together or slip stitch it shut. You can always make pj's. There are tons of options. These are only a few I can mention (I'm at work and the boss is hovering).....

I'm a GUY, but often take old jeans and make drawstring bags for hobby-tools out of the legs... pillows out of the rest.

I've taken a number of old T-shirts with sentimental military logos or travel locations and cut them and sewn them into pillows or other shirts.

Socks and other shirts often just become rags so I don't waste money and trees on paper towels.

Hey, one of my old teachers said she made blankets out of her daughter's old t-shirts. I don't know exactly how, but since you sew you probably could figure it out. That's a lot bigger than a purse and would take a while, I imagine. Good luck!

crazy quilts. crazy quilt purse. Shirts and sweaters make easily into pillows. Make scented cachets for your drawers out of satiny materials...there is a teddy bear pattern called memory bear you may find downloadable on the internet to sew.

Learn to knit/crochet too...that way you can add unique edging to old clothes - change neck lines - turn them from sweater to hoodie etc...

Yes, there is something else you can make out of old clothes. You can make a quilt, doll clothes or even add your favorite fabric to the bottom of towels to make a decorative edge.

quilts are nice - you can always see the shirt that you wore.
use old socks to cover the ladder ends that lean against the house so they don't scratch and leave a mark.
make a big long pillow for cuddling with while watching the boob tube.

There are many items you can make. You can make a doll, doll clothes, stuffed animals, bean bags (i use real beans), pot holders, quilt and so much more. Have fun. Look for patterns at your local walmart or fabric store. If you do not find one, make a pattern your self.

I cut the back or (front) of my 2 year olds shirts and I am piecing them together to make a quilt for when he gets his big boy bed.

It all depends on what you want to do. I know of a great community on livejournal just for T shirt reconstruction. You can make just about anything out of a t shirt.
http://community.livejournal.com/t_shirt_surgery/
there are tutorials there about how to do a variety of things.
That site always inspires me
