A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is "blogging" and someone who keeps a blog is a "blogger." Blogs are typically updated daily using software that allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain the blog.
A “web log” or online diary. Blogs have been identified as an increasingly popular source of online publication, especially regarding political information, opinion publication and alternative news coverage.

Someone who writes a personal log on the internet. "blog" is short for "web log" and a blogger is a person who writes their own content and posts it on the web. A blog could be anything from personal comments to breaking news reports on something the blogger is currently experiencing. Blogs are increasingly becoming the starting point for mainstream news articles. There is even a blog-based news website: technorati.

As of November 2006, blog search engine Technorati was tracking nearly 60 million blogs.
Blogger was launched by Pyra Labs in August 1999. As one of the earliest dedicated blog-publishing tools, it is credited for helping popularize the format.
In February 2003, Pyra Labs was acquired by Google under undisclosed terms. The acquisition allowed premium features that Pyra charged for to be free. About a year later, Pyra Labs' co-founder, Evan Williams, left Google.

Google purchased Picasa in 2004; it integrated Picasa and its photo sharing utility Hello, into Blogger, allowing users to post photos to their blogs.
