For my life career I'd like to have a job that must include creative writing or story writing. I live a smaller sized town with a population of about 2000 people. The biggest thing in this town is Wal-mart. I will NOT move from my town, which would be away from my family. I'd love to work for a magazine but then I'd have to move which I will not do. I'm not interested in becoming a teacher. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON JOBS?

Freelance. Submit your stores to magazines which will pay you for them if accepted.

I'm a creative writing major. Getting a job doing any kind of creative writing is very difficult in small towns. I would say to seek our the closest newspaper to see if they have anything you can do. Also, look into freelance work. The internet is your friend in this situation. Do a lot of internet searches for literary journals, magazines, etc. Google "writing guidelines" or "writing submissions" for places seeking writers and articles. I have a ton of links, but no success yet.

Also keep in mind that most writers DO NOT have full-time jobs as writers. I teach part-time, work as a technical communicator part-time, and write part-time. I make most of my money from teaching. And I am supposed to do writing at my technical communicator job, but I spend more time doing little things like making copies.

Keep in mind that writers are VERY competitive. It is difficult to get work even if you live in NYC.
