Having an ultrasound at this point is totally normal! They are right - they can see more because the baby is bigger, including the sex organs, if you want to know. It's not a reflection on the competency of your doctor - in fact, there is research out there to suggest that having more ultrasounds is no more beneficial than having fewer, and that by having more u/s you can actually do some damage to the fetus. Some doctors have machines right in their office and have to make up for the cost somehow, by doing an ultrasound every visit. There is no real medical need for this unless you are high risk.
They've also said that having more ultrasounds does not necessarily positively impact the outcome of the pregnancy. It simply prepares you for the possibility of anything being wrong, but there is little if anything you can do about it untl the baby is born.
At this point, they might want you to have a full bladder so they can see everything clearly, but it might not be a necessity at this point since you are so far along. All they do is squirt a cold (sometimes they warm it up first) jelly on your stomach and rub a device over your stomach that conducts the sound? waves that bounce off the utuerus - this is how they can see movements, etc. They will measure the baby, look for the heart beating, check four four chambers of the heart and other things to make sure things are okay. Oh, and they might also look for girl or boy parts if you want :) and if baby is being cooperative. It doesn't hurt or anything. The worst part is having to hold your pee if you need a full bladder!
Good luck and congrats!

An ultrasound is non-invasive. You won't feel anything except an incredible urge to release all the water they will have you drink to fill your bladder and make the uterus more visible on the ultrasound. The gel might be a little cold at first and the rolling of the device around your belly might tickle.
The doctors are checking for spinal development and plotting growth. You'll be fine. Enjoy your pregnancy. Best wishes for a speedy delivery when the time comes and a healthy, happy baby.

Honey I had ultrasounds every week from 14 weeks until I delievered due to being high risk. I delievered a month early as expected anyhow they will measure the baby's growth, check the way the blood is flowing to and from the heart, check the brain for development, check the spine for defects, check the liver and so forth. They will also check your amino level, the placenta and cervical length. It might take a bit longer then your first but at 22 weeks your little baby will be bigger and you might even have the chance to count toes, see its face, and maybe just maybe see what gender it is.

You shouldn't be worried you should be excited altho i was really nervous when i had my first ultrasound all they do is rub some really cold gel on ur belly or if theyare nice it will be warm!! and they will put the thingy on and inspect everything look at the babies growth and making sure it has 5 fingers and toes 1 head ect ect looking for diformaties ect, they will then look at the babies internal organs such as the heart liver pancreas brain lungs bowls tummy and everything that all takes maybe 10 15 mintues then they will show you the baby or they may talk you through what they are looking at as they go. I had my first proper scan at 13 weeks to check for abnormiltys and down sydrome ect. Its the most amazing thing to see it moving inside ur belly and thinking that what your looking at on the screen is your baby!! good luck and have fun!!

don't worry this is an amazing experience. you get to see your baby for the first time. they wait until 22 weeks because they want to see the development of the baby at certain stages. this is also a good time to find out what it is if you want to. if they do it any earlier they may not be able to see and measure accurately.

Don't let other people make you think you should have had a load of ultrasounds by now - most people only have one before now, but there is no reason to have loads and actually it could harm the baby.
They will take lots of measurements of your baby and look at the spine, all the main organs and the veins in the heart and measure the head and legs and abdominal cavity.
Most of it is pretty hard to make out but they will point out things to you.

Nothing to worry about...except the full bladder giving in and peeing all over ones self...lol. Really it just feels that way. You will lay back and they'll put jelly on your belly and run the paddle over your belly taking measurements and checking for different things. Most will be foreign to you...but they will point out all the cool stuff. You will be so into seeing your little one that you will forget about that full bladder, at least until they help you up and you have to do that funny pee pee dance to bathroom.

a million. Nope 2. Yeah 3. Yeah 4. Yeah 5. Yeah BQ: there is not any such element as a "fluke" international sequence Champion. They gained more suitable postseason video games than all and sundry else. for this reason they win the international sequence. No fluke there.

they will check your babies developing organs to make sure all is well. they will make sure your child is growing and gaining weight, and at this point you should be able to get a good view of the babies sex if your baby chooses to cooperate. there is no pain involved, although a full bladder may make the u/s slightly uncomfortable. this should be enjoyable, because it is the first time you will be able to "see" the baby living inside you.

unless you do not know your due date, or there is a problem with your pregnancy, you do not need an ultrasound until now or if you want to find out the sex of the child. they will put gel on your stomach and move this little wand like thing around. it doesn't hurt at all.
