he's not as he's past his best now but his image is probably worth a lot more than that. his face publicly associated with an american "soccer" team? priceless for worldwide revenue, just look at all the euro teams that have signed asian players almost purely on the fact that they are well know in there respective countries. American "soccer" isn't really thought of worldwide yet but with the image of becks to heighten the profile who knows... ps, reckon beckham thought L.A Galaxy was a french chocolate bar? ;p

No he can't even get in the England squad.
In England he is now seen as an object of ridicule by moving to the MLS which is pathetic in comparison to the quality of the domestic leagues in Europe.
Americans dont even like football they call it soccer for gods sake.
Beckham is just a pretty face with the intellect of a 6 year old.

Well he obviously is worth that much to that particular team.

Considering how much money sporting teams make, (sponsors, crowds and merchandising,) then isn't only fair that the individuals who are the reasons for this revenue get paid appropriatly. You don't see Bill Gates working for $10 per hour.

The way I look at it is, if Beckham stopped playing football tomorrow would it effect my life, No! If a doctor on the verge of a cancer cure died tomorrow, would that effect my life, Yes! So to me no sports person is worth that amount.
Hope that answers your question.

I have a better question. Is anyone really worth 128 million pounds?

No he is worth around £6 million.

I would love to see what Christiano Ronaldo will be offered in years to come.

Probably not but if someone offered you that kinda money would you turn it down. Let the guy be rich for being average, someone's fool enough to pay so it's his great luck.

Yes. They'll make their money back in the sale of shirts, memorabilia, plastic dolls and renewed sponsor interest. Posh Becks pretty much comes with the package too.

When they work out the numbers - they're not daft!

No, he has totally sold himself out. He is now a football shirt clothes horse rather than a player! Its a hell of a shame.

He's worth whatever the marketplace says he's worth. No more, no less. And, uh - Feline (answerer above me)... The United States isn't paying him a penny, my dear... Corporations are paying him.

God, I worry about this country's future, sometimes...
