If you have never done that before I recommend that you check with a garage door company first. Work on garage doors should be done by professionally trained and experienced people only. There are many accidents each year with people attempting to do the work. Numerous people have been seriously injured and some killed from the weight of the door and issues with the springs.

the springs put tension on the cables that is what lets you raise the door with less effort do not try to do this your self it could result in damaging the door or personal injury it would be better to pay professional than to spend the money on doctor bills or a new garage door which would cost more
