Meteorology uses Z, or Zulu, time which is the same as Greenwich Mean Time or Coordinated Universial Time (UTC). Basically it's the time at the Prime Meridian, and this gives the whole community a basic time. Right now, 0z is 7pm Eastern Standard Time. If a model is valid at 0z, the map displayed is for this time. If the model is the 0z run, it means the initial conditions of the model are from 0z and the 6 hour forecast would be for 06z, etc.

Hi. The 'z' stands for Zulu. It really means UTC.

Oz = ozone (= O3 scientific notation)
