Yes, crab lice can live for quite some time off the body and the little critters can jump to a new host from something like a toilet seat rather easily. Same thing for head lice.
There are many instances I can think of where this has happened.
To prove this point, have your friend call a dermatologist and ask for an appointment to treat this condition. I'll guarantee the doctor will tell him to get rid of the infestation before he comes in. The reason......He doesn't want his office infested and his patients to become a home to these little crotch crickets.
I hope you weren't too accusatory when you made your statement to your friend...he probably did get them off a toilet seat.

Actually, you could catch them from the toliet seat, clothes, furniture, etc. Crabs are actually tiny crablike creatures that live, crawl, eat (yuk), etc. They move around and can live on other surfaces besides human genitals. If someone is infected so to speak, they could leave them on their linens, towels, sheets, underwear, clothes, furniture. So therefore you could catch them from these things. Even trying on clothes at a store if the person tried on that garmet and had them! However, these things are less likely then catching them through sexual intercourse where there is direct close contact. I would inspect the boyfriend carefully before I had anything to do with him intimately again! They are relatively easy to get rid of. Ask the pharmicist at the drug store for recommendations.

I don't think you can caught them from a toliet seat but if you are sharing underwear or just sleeping naked next to them- I think it's possible. It's really close contact. I JUST FOUND THIS IT'S FROM A GOVERMENT WEBSITE!!
How did I get pubic lice?
Pubic lice are usually spread through sexual contact. Rarely, infestation can be spread through contact with an infested person's bed linens, towels, or clothes. A common misunderstanding is that infestation can be spread by sitting on a toilet seat. This isn't likely, since lice cannot live long away from a warm human body. Also, lice do not have feet designed to walk or hold onto smooth surfaces such as toilet seats.
Infection in a young child or teenager may indicate sexual activity or sexual abuse.

No, it is not possible to catch crabs from a toilet seat. Crabs feed on blood and nothing else. They bury their teeth into a warm spot on your body such as your scalp, underarms and your pubic hair. This is the only way they live. You have to have close contact with someone in order to catch crabs such as intercourse. Crabs cannot live on a toilet seat not unless someone used the toilet and immediately after they got up you sat down and used the bathroom. Highly unlikely you caught crabs from a toilet seat unless you were in the toilet with that person and sat down after they got up immediately.

When it is in ones hair (On their Head) it is called head lice!
It is only in the genitles that those lice are called crabs!
As for a toilet seat defense that is total crap!
There is NOTHING on a toilet seat to appeal to the lice. After all it isn't as if they'd sit there and wait like they're waiting for a bus!!!
One wrong move and they better have their life jacket on!

Yes, you can get crabs from a toilet seat, from bed sheets or even from wearing the pants of an infected person. But it is more likely that you would get them from a person, as they generally don't stay on a cold surface very long. Crabs are pretty easy to see, so if her bf has them, all she has to do is take a look.

You could get crabs by sleeping in the same bed with someone or by close physical contact, but NOT by a toilet seat.

"The crab louse can live in almost any form of human hair, but is found most commonly in pubic hair, leading to its other common name of pubic louse. Its legs are adapted to climbing along relatively widely spaced hairs, and so it can be found in eyebrows, pubic hair, beards, moustaches, and even armpit hair. The individual louse can survive for about 24 hours apart from its necessary human host, so that crab lice can be passed on in sleeping bags and bedding. The female may lay up to 40 eggs at a time, resulting in a fluctuating but growing population. The louse feeds on blood and can leave irritating spots on the skin, sometimes mistaken for pimples, a condition called Pediculosis pubis."
In otherwords, don't hang out with dirty people.
