I miscarried one embryo at what the doctor estimated was around five weeks but a scan showed a second embryo still developing normally. I had a second scan on the surviving twin today, nearly three weeks later, and they could not detect a heart beat and said growth had been slower than they would like. Hoping the dates were off and a h/b will show at a third scan next week and wondering if a bad bronchial infection I have just shaken after two weeks may have had a bearing on the growth rate. I didn't take medication. I have all the pregnancy symptoms from sore back and breasts to morning sickness and have already bonded very strongly so it is hard to adjust to the idea I might be carrying something that was just not meant to be. What are the chances it could rectify itself?

First of all, I empathize with your situation. This is a very difficult time for you. I will remember you in my prayers.
I had a similar situation in my pregnancy. One twin didn't survive at 13 weeks gestation. The other was slow to grow and was born prematurely weighing only 3lbs. 14oz. Other than being incredibly small, he had no other health challenges. He did get jaundiced as most premies do, but eventually he put on weight. I stayed with him at the hospital for two to three weeks and pumped breast milk for him (nursing wore him out; he burned more calories nursing than bottle feeding.) Eventually we went home and I was able to wean him from supplements and nursed him for 17 months.
He's 22 now. Doing just fine and is healthy. The joy of my life! God is good.
Just ask questions about whatever you need to know. Write things down and keep asking until you understand. Pray. God is able. If it is meant to be he will bring your little one forth.

Such a sad situation. I'd hate to tell you that God plans all things and this is just in the plan... because it seems so patronizing to say that. But, I will tell you that as long as you try to relax and not stress over it.. the better it will be for that little baby.

I doubt your infection had much to do with it since you didn't take anything, but now that you are feeling better, just concentrate on being the healthiest that you can be and keep a positive attitude.

At five month pregnant, my OB said that my bleeding was the beginning of a miscarriage. That child is 11 today. So we don't know what the future will bring us exactly... but I do know that putting your feet up, taking it very easy, eating healthy, staying as close to stress free as possible etc. is the best you can do for the little one. A happy mom is a happy baby.

I'll keep you in my prayers.

I had the same thing happen to me last January. I was told that the baby could catch up, however, After 2 months of ultrasounds every week and finaly being able to detect the heart beat, I lost the baby. I was told there was a 50% chance of survival and a 50% of miscarriage. Keep up hope and hang in there. Hopefully everything will be fine.

i dont think your bronchial infection had anything to do with the development of your baby. Usually it is serious illnesses like lupus, cancer, etc that that affect a pregnancy. I hope you saw a dr about the infection though. You are still super early in your pregnancy and if your dr isnt ruling out a healthy pregnancy then all you can di is wait and see unfortuantly. I hope everything works out for you ;)

this will just have to be a wait and see situation.
