1) move all variables to one side:
x^2 + 6x = 0

2) factor
x(x + 6) = 0

3) solve each factor (since equation = 0, one factor MUST be 0):
x = 0 or x + 6 = 0
x = 0 or x = -6

x^2=-6x
x^2+6x=0
x(x+6)=0
x=0 or -6
