I heard the same! It's so common now that it has it's own name:
Hip-pocket syndrome or wallet-neuropathy.
According to the article below, experts say men who sit down with their wallets in their back trouser pocket risk damaging key nerves.

Sciatica...
Sciatica is a pain in the leg caused by the irritation of the sciatic nerve. Generally, the pain travels from the back of the thigh to the back of the calf, and also may extend upwards, to the hip, and downwards to the foot. In addition to pain, there may be numbness and difficulty in moving or controlling the leg. Typically, the symptoms are only felt on one side of the body.
The Sciatic Nerve runs BETWEEN two of the muscles in your butt. If you put a wallet THAT IS OVERSTUFFED WITH USELESS JUNK in your back pocket and drive for extended periods of time I'll bet you dollars to Pesos that you'll develop Sciatica. (My father did and he was always packing enormous amounts of junk in his wallet.)

No. If your wallet is an inch thick you can offset your spine. If it's thin and you sit on soft surfaces than it's probably ok. I don't keep it in my back pocket unless I'm standing. And in crowded public places I keep it in my front pocket to avoid pick-pocketers.
I had an adjustment by a chiro for that very reason.

Girls like to see the bulge of your wallet in your back pocket so that be it. Backbone, hips or levelled butt cheeks are secondary aspects. So be it.

It is not a good idea to have a wallet in the back pocket as it can cause low back problems due to sitting on it all the time.

I have a money clip in my front pocket. Ever since New Years Eve, 1997 in NYC, I have not had a wallet. It was 11:59:55, or close to it, when mine was lifted.

No it's not good to carry a wallet in your back pocket because it puts pressure on the sciatic nerve and can cause bad back and hip trouble.

It may not be good for your back, but I'd be more concerned about getting it lifted by a pick pocket. Put it in a side pocket.

It tilts the pelvis and throws the posture out of whack. When I drive, I always take my wallet out of my pocket for that reason.

I think you have a much higher chance of it getting stolen or lost if not in the front pocket.
