I've seen this in older homes, usually located in the southern United States. I understand that Dutch homes were built with double front entrance doors too.

On older homes, one door was used for visitors and the other for residents. Visitors went into a parlor or living room for entertaining and residents went in the other door, usually into the kitchen or hall way to the kitchen, to keep the "front" room clean adn free of tracked in dirt.

I assume you mean a double front door most of the homes with a double front door had a large foyer so the larger opening was more to scale for the room also it was more practical and comfortable and elegant for guest to pass through as a couple when making an entrance which was important in that time period. also many of the peaces of furniture at that tine were very large.

- To fit their big-aŝş furniture through them.

- Looks nice and majestic

- Those fat maids needed the extra room.
