the aim of this experiment is to calculate the energy in one peanut? we burnt the peanut and measured how much hotter the water got. we stuck the peanut on a nail and burnt it under the beaker with water. wot could be the errors in the experiment

There are some tricks that you could employ to get a better answer.

First – replicate testing, do it at least 3 times see if all three results are similar. DO NOT combine the results from someone that was using a different approach than you were- everything should be the same fro each trial.
Second – pulverize (grind up the peanut) the out side may burn and char, but leave the inside untouched.
Third – use more than one peanut. You are measuring the change in temperature in a calorimeter. More peanuts gives you a greater amount of change, and reduces one source for error – error in measuring the beginning and ending temperature.

There are many more sources for error, I am thinking of at least 3 more.

A lot of the heat is lost to the air.
