There's a little bit going both ways nowadays. I've known a lot of insensitive guys, and I've known a lot of oversensitive girls.
Guys are taught not to portray any feelings, at least traditionally. Where I live, a lot of guys still hold to that "rule". It's kind of ridiculous.
Also where I live, there is a lot of misguided feminine pride. Which by all means is not a bad thing, but it tends to get in the way of anything whenever I'm hanging around girls. It's hard to tell a joke without worry of offending someone of the female gender. There's a bunch out of the pack that are way too oversensitive, but aren't shy with their jokes about men.

Not all are bad. Just gotta find the right one. The one thing I have never been accused of in a relationship is being insensitive. Forgetful and naive but never insensitive.

Women think men are INSENSITIVE. Men think women are OVERLY sensitive. Perhaps both genders are correct. Maybe the ideal would be somewhere in between the two extremes. I think that the reasons behind the differences in the two genders boils down to hormones and society's influence.

And who says it's just men? Some women are the same way. It's just their nature of being. Human beings can be very sensitive and very insensitive at times. It does not go more to one particular gender, it goes to both.

In general: men are not nurturers, but rather forward and agressive in the way they approach details. Even sensitive men can behave that way.

Up until the 1970's, or maybe (maybe) a little earlier, women expected men to be the ones who solved all the problems, so this is mostly habit, or from watching their fathers, grandfathers behave that way.

To counteract: Let the man in question know that you are able to solve this situation on your own, but thank him for wanting to help out.

They are who they are. If I tried to put in any more effort to figure them out my brain will explode.

Men tend to think on the line of "solving" rather than "hearing" We women when faced with a problem fix the problem by being able to talk about it. Men fix it by doing something to fix it. You have to tell a man that you just need someone to listen to you.

They are not so good with subtle hints (for the most part) be blunt.

OMG I am right there with you today sister friend!!! My man decided to go out drinking last night and wouldn't answer his phone and got home at midnight when he said he was gonna be home by 8 at the latest. Then he woke me up and started a fight with me. Then he woke me up at 5 this morning when I don't have to be up till 5:45 and yelled at me for letting him go to sleep with his phone on silent so he couldn't hear his alarm.... WTF. I think the reason they are the way they are is because they don't have empathy like women.

They don't mean to be insensitive.

They have been trained to think that any show of sensitivity is effeminate.

It takes a real man to be sensitive and show his emotions. I hope you find one.

Testosterone. If it is high, they are more "driven" and ambitious, and arrogant. If it is lower, they are more laid back, "sensitive", but also, not so great in the sack. So you have to take the good with the bad.
