a vanishing twin is when you were having twins but one baby wasn't strong enough or didn't receive enough nurishment and the fetus was absorded back into the mother

Not unless you were told by the doctor you were having twins before one vanished. If not, then you might never know.
i know what you are talking about tho. Sometimes during pregnancy, a woman will be carrying twins, but one will sometimes just "vanish". It is not a miscarriage, simply survival of the fittest. the twin that vanished is re-absorbed back into the bloodstream and used as nutrients in the placenta, etc..

No way to know unless twins were detected very early in the pregnancy via ultrasound (before the 12th week). But the absorption is something that happens very early in pregnancy. So early in fact that most never know that there may been a twin.
Nothing to be concerned about at all...the only thing to worry about is when the twin has died later in the pregnancy when its too far along for the body to absorb.

Twins are sometimes absorbed during the very early stages at the death of one of the twins.
However, there is a really cool thing that happens and is VERY rare is that one twin absorbs the other.. fetus infetu (I think that is how it is spelled... not sure)........ and later the surviving fetus has to have the absorbed fetus surgically removed.
Very interesting medical puzzle.. but it is very rare.

I saw that on tv last night, most people never find out they said..if you dont see it by ultrasound sometimes you can see some kind of growth on the placenta when it comes out. It was on the national geographic channel on a show called in the womb:multiples

I heard that one in eight people were supposed to be twins but the mother couldn't support both of them so one of them died so early in the development that you couldn't tell.

Nope, no vanishing twin here, my twin is still chained to my basement wall, as always.

What's a vanishing twin? You mean they told you you were having twins and now you're only having one? Can you miscarry only one? Ask your doctor I guess...

I have one fact:
There is a better chance of getting a twin if you are left handed.
