I have a mate whos birthdays coming up and want to get him his own custom plectrum. I was wondering if there is any way of making my own using a printer or something?

Get some clear labels for your printer. Scan your picture or another picture of something cool and print it out on the labels. Go buy some white picks and cut the labels to fit the picks. Stick the labels on the white picks and you have a custom pick!

Get a 5p piece, put it on the railway tracks (preferably a high-speed line and for God's sake be very careful as this is very dangerous and also illegal) and wait for the train to go by. When you find it again (not as hard as you might think) you will see that it is almost a perfect plectrum shape, and also very shiny. File it if the shape needs altering, then take it to an engravers to have a message put on it.

You can use a coin as a plectrum, so maybe you could spend some quality time with some DIY tools and a penny...

I suspect there are websites where you can get them custom made, one of my pals bought me a silver one engraved with my name.

How about locating a range of foreign/old coins and find someone with a grinder/metal cutter to shape them into a plectrum.....easier than you think!

its not really gonna work by sticking print-outs onto plectrums, as pretty soon you are gonna have flappy ragged bits of paper hanging off yer plectrum...they cost eff all...you must be able to get them done properly somewhere

cut up your credit card: how about using the hologram

otherwise, buy one and paint it with enamel paints: pretty small surface area to customise, mind you...

good luck, happy birthday to yer mate!

Top tip. Buy him a packet of false fingernails. And paint each one.
