It's like a Sci-Fi type cartoon movie, there is a young boy who is lost on a planet, he manages to contact this old man using a microphone, the old man tells the boy that his name is Mike, although towards the end of the movie you realise that the old man IS in fact the young boy, but in the future. There are also two small creatures that I think (if i'm remembering correctly) are sort of like jelly babies and they are two different colours but the same type of creature, and at the end I think they turn into flowers or something. There is a point where the mic. somehow gets dropped in a cave where there is this monster with tenticles that wants to eat anyone that goes in the cave. At another point in the movie the boy hurts his head, this is the point you realise man and the boy are the same person, as the boy gets a metal plate put in his head and you see that the old man has the exact same plate in the same place on his head.
Please help me, this is driving me nuts... lol

I think it's this one:

Time Masters

Les Maîtres du temps (1982)

http://imdb.com/title/tt0084315/

It's also got a fansite in several languages (including English)

Synopsis:

After a crash of a space ship on the planet 'Perdide' the seven year old Piel is the only survivor. Alone on this barren planet he finds himself being attacked by giant hornets. His only connection to the outside world is his radio. It allows him to contact his fatherly friend Jaffar, who is already on the way with his crew to rescue Piel. However there are dangers waiting on the way for the crew and an unforseen surprise at the end.

Great question, I also remember this movie and have wondered about it for years. The answer above is certainly a possibility, especially as it mentions that an English-language version exists from about 1987 which fits my recollection of when I saw it.

That's an intriguing storyline and sounds very much like a short story by Jorge Luis Borges-I'd tell you the name but I lost my copy in Spain :(
