Actually it has already started. A rough and ready guide is to take away two minutes from the shortest day in the calendar i e in about 30 days you will have an hour to gain from sunlight. Thus the day is already on the march, dispelling darkness. By about end of February the earth normally has around 2 hours more than , say, the last week of December and then Spring will not be that far. Thank you.

Daylight starts lengthening early in January. Very slowly the sun rises earlier and sets later each day. If you look at the table of sunrise and sunsets found in most diaries, you will see that the last day of January is actually 51 mins longer than at the beginning of the month.

Anyone living in the northern hemisphere has been getting progressively longer days/shorter nights since the Dec. 21st winter solstice. You'll definitely notice the days get longer when spring is in the air. Until then, you've got to find other ways to keep your energy up. Sorry Boo!!
The good news, just be glad you're not in the southern hemisphere. Their days ARE getting shorter. ; )

its already getting lighter. from dec 21st which is the shortest day. it will continue getting longer till june 21st which is the longest day there after they get shorter and so on. the dull weather that we are experiencing just now is not helping matters by keeping things dull and making everyone s.a.d. (seasonal affective disorder) caused by lack of sunshine.
