Every year - in addition to regularly staged shows - our group does a couple of play readings (several actors sitting in chairs with their scripts on music stands). We prefer to use a good sized cast (6 or more) - with "big" characters who can be differentiated through their voices. Don't want to do Neil Simon or A. R. Gurney. (they are already in the season) We've done "Beautiful Bodies", "You Can't Take It With You" and "Light up the Sky" and "Lone Star" in the past and they all worked well.

A really great comedy that has 7 characters is "Squabbles" by Marshall Karp. It's hysterical, and the characters are certainly "big" and interesting...it's a great show!!!

Look into Christopher Durang or David Ives, especially if you might consider doing more a few one-acts instead of one full-length.
