Ok, I think you need to read the article - Pelosi is introducing legislation to put restrictions on LOBBYING - these restrictions would require churches and other non-profits to register as lobbies - that's all. There have been so many abuses of power in Washington in the last 6+ years, that this is an attempt to give government back to the people and limit the power of organizations with enough money to wine and dine government officials to get what they want. Under Bush, the separation of church and state has all but dissolved. So, Pelosi does not "not want" this separation - she wants to reinstate it. If this legislation only affected organizations like the ACLU, these conservative Christians wouldn't be moaning about it, but because it affects them too, they are taking this as an opportunity to whip up fears and trash the democrats. After Washington was wracked by scandals with lobbyists like Jack Abramoff taking advantage of conservative Christians, you'd think they'd welcome some reform. Well, it limits the power of many and they just don't like having to play by the same rules as everyone else!

It seems to me that what she's proposing is in keeping with the real meaning of separation of church and state: that the government is not a tool for the churches. Religious fanatics want to use the government as such, and when they're prevented from doing so, they throw a hissy fit. They actually think the wall between church and state is a "one way wall"-- they get to control the levers of worldly power, but the government can't tell them what to do. Even when they're abusing their members of infringing the rights of others. Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

You couldn't be further from the truth. I don't even need to click that link to know that, because honestly.. I don't give a damn what some random one track minded, liberal-bashing republican article has to say on Pelosi. None of you conservatives have looked 2 centimeters into her actual stands and measures to know what she's about. She certainly does not support a religiously run government. That's a FAR right-wing measure.

Actually, she IS for separation of church and state.

If churches and their leaders want to be active players in the political arena, then they should be subject to the same regulations and requirements as all the other players in the political arena.

If they want to preach morality and religion and not directly try to influence elections, then they would be left alone.

A typical Orwellian twist that by not allowing fundamentalists to hide in their churches and skirt requirements on their POLITICAL activities, that somehow that's a blending of church and state.

In fact, it's the opposite.

Your "news source" is an extremely right-wing web site. Other people who are regularly featured there will erase any doubt as to the site's overall political philosophy.

Pelosi absolutely stands for separation; unlike the current administration that did everything in its power to seduce the religious right for votes/support, and then virtually left them high and dry regarding financial support.

If we did not have that we would be just like Iraq with the Baptist fighting the 7th Day Adventis and Mormons. Each religious trib would want to rule because they hear from GOD.

Pelosi wants to turn this country into a Socialist Nation.
She wants to be another Kim Jong.

We may all have to become "goose steppers" after the 2008 elections.
