Everything doesn't close for this holiday. Government...yes.....but they use any excuse to take off. It's not exactly a "celebration" day but more a day to honor Martin Luther King. We have presidents day comming up too. It's not "party time".....just a day to remember Washington and Lincoln's birthday. They used to be seperate but we had too many things going on in such a short time......so they joined them and made Presidents Day. Martin Luther King helped bring about great change and it's good a day is set aside to reflect on that. I do have to say I think it was made a day to also recognise the contributions of the black Americans in our American history. There's just not enough days in the year to honor everyone that might deserve it.

Because congress made it a national holiday. If you know no one who cares about Martin Luther King Jr., you need to get out more.

It is sad to hear that anyone does not understand what he and many others fought for. To honor him is now a privilege. Life has changed so much in the last 50 years I think some of you need to be reminded. That is why we shut every government agency for 1 day a year. It should be more.

It's called political correctness. Where have you been? I wonder when more people find out of the true history of MLK and his rise, will they take the holiday back? MLK was no saint and was a puppet . Just wait till the FBI reports surface and the CIA files are opened up. His fake, pushed through doctorate degree info is already starting to leak out.

I don't know either. To me all he was was a guy that a made a few speech's & got shot for it. I'm always sick of that. Because some knucklehead decieded to celibrate him for making some speachs. Which I think is absolutely redickulas.

I share your opinion about this.

Have a great day.

Good Question.

I am sitting at my desk, at work, bored out of my mind because all the government agencies (County, State, and City) are closed and all of my real estate vendors.

It gives me a good chance to play on yahoo.

Is a day that supposely everbody should honor the man who delivered the 'I have a dream' speech. He also fought for civil liberties for all -and not limited to African Americans- to live free and to be seen as created equal.
